Any Homestuck and/or Hiveswap fans out there getting maybe a teensy tiny bit concerned about literally EVERYONE leaving WhatPumpkin and dropping out of Hiveswap?
ME TOO!
Here’s what I THINK is happening.
See this post right here?
It’s from the Hiveswap twitter!
At first, it seems to be just about WhatPumpkin advertising their game, hiveswap, along with Viz Media’s new and first video game, The World Next Door.
Now, as you might know, Viz Media partnered with Hussie a few months back to work on stuff like the Homestuck books and other promotional things.
Well, now that we see that Viz Media is taking a dip into the video game market, I am beginning to see the inevitable connection between them and our dear little Hiveswap.
I fear that Viz Media is taking over Hiveswap.
Without any of the old WhatPumpkin crew.
So, Cohen, James, Shelby, Poinko; all the passionate and talented Homestuck fans that we’ve come to know and love who worked on Act 1 (and possibly the unreleased Act 2) are gone. We’ve seen them either outright say they are leaving or put up some type of “work wanted” post on Twitter or Tumblr.
At this point, maybe you can see my concerns.
Hiveswap was being worked on by a team of Homestuck fans who knew the fans on a deep level and were constantly communicating with the fans. They knew the source material on a level that no outside company could know.
They were Homestuck fans. And damn skilled ones.
Viz Media is not going to give us the same level of a personable and relatable work crew. Viz Media is a big company and they are going to go at Hiveswap like a big company would. And I doubt they are going to be as passionate about it as our WhatPumpkin crew.
I’m scared about how faithful the story, the dialogue, the characters, the art, the everything will stay to Act 1 and Homestuck in general.
I’m especially scared about how our newly revealed trans and non-binary characters will be handled, as well as the obvious LGBT relationships that were sure to be included from the start.
If this does turn out to be true, which more and more, it’s looking to be, we might be seeing a huge change in Hiveswap’s entire soul.
I’m hoping for the best, but, I hate to say it, I’m trying to prepare for the worst.
Good Luck, WhatPumpkin. Cohen, James, Shelby, Toby, Poinko, and, even Hussie; I wish you luck and I hope what you’ve started is able to continue and go on to it’s finishing end. Hopefully that end is a good one.
