does fallout 76 really have the most lackluster (or a complete lack of) anti-cheating measures.. is that true. is it true it doesnt validate the players files
A few people were given access to stress-test the game. Official Trailers and such can be found on Bethesda’s Youtube Page.
As for retcons: YeaYong explains how the Brotherhood have been retconned to be included into Fallout 76, but doesn’t go into detail about the Supermutants or Deathclaws.
I’ll try keep this as short as possible:
Deathclaws and Supermutants were made in tiny numbers pre-war, and were extremely incomplete. The Master would refine them into their complete forms at the same time as Fallout 76: Thing is this is on the West Coast, not West Virginia.
Supermutants were also worked on in Vault 87 on the East Coast, however this was entirely enclosed inside the Vault until many years later.
Deathclaws would migrate across the wasteland in the next 100+ years since their completion, eventually thriving all across the USA, West Coast to East Coast.
SPECULATION: The FEV in the Deathclaw’s DNA allowed them to evolve to survive better in their new environments, which is why they look different in Fallout 4. Their models in Fallout 3 are to be ignored, or corrected if a remaster is made.
Now, Fallout 76: This is based 25 years after the war, and a whole year before the original Fallout. The driving force of Fallout was that Supermutants were starting to appear. 50 alone was way too fucking many, and The Master was trying to make an entire army of them. They existed no where else in the USA at this point (except for Vault 87, still enclosed until 20~ years prior to Fallout 3).
This was exactly the same for Deathclaws, as they were considered legends at this point, no one believed they existed.
So here’s the problem: Fallout 76 includes Supermutants, Deathclaws (in their modern East Coast forms) and the Brotherhood of Steel. None of these were on the East Coast until a hundred years later.
Having Supermutants in this game alone completely disregards the entirety of the original Fallout, retconning the BASE EVENTS THAT THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE IS BUILT UPON.
okay well like.. my opinion is that it is horrible and bad and probably only a LITTLE bit tolerable with a group of people to play with. a roleplaying game without ACTUAL npcs that aren’t in the form of mr handys and holotapes is really empty and the game feels unfinished. making stimpaks and ammo weigh something is annoying because of the crafting element they continued in the game where you have to carry A HUNDRED pounds of equipment to make things at the crafting and tinker stations. making it a “survival” game where you have to eat and drink to stay alive was implemented in earlier games with the “hardcore mode” thing but it just seems like an added nuisance in a game already lacking so much. the environment is beautiful and the graphics are great. but it seems like they put so much into the scenic stuff that they left so much to be desired. fallout used to be about looting and exploring and searching for quests and it was a ROLEPLAYING GAME where you come immerse yourself into a character whether that was the courier or the lone wanderer or whatever. Fallout 4 was pushing it but at least it had a quest line in the form of actual people and factions and it had so many places to explore and loot. this game you can walk and theres just trees and maybe one or two empty houses with nothing of value inside. the perk system and leveling up is confusing and didn’t need to be updated. i think just adding the multiplayer feature to a game that was doing SO WELL and is BASED OFF OF ONE PLAYER ROLEPLAYING was stupid and it has really made the game flop and the brand is suffering.
and let’s not forget that even past how bad the game is mechanically, what little story there is in 76 absolutely fucks the lore of Fallout
They did several things on several fronts (the brotherhood of steel, the enclave, super mutants, death claws, etc) that just. cannot possibly make sense. They’ve broken the lore so bad that in order for 76 to be canon, the original Fallout 1 and 2 have to be retconned out of existence. And they did it without reason or merit; they just didn’t care enough to write a new faction and make enough new enemies not to need super mutants and deathclaws.
Some people don’t give a fuck about the lore and that’s fine. But for a lot of people, if not most people who are fans of the series overall, the lore is hugely important to the immersion aspect of the series. 76 not only isn’t immersive on its own due to a lack of story and a lack of characters to play out a story, but also retroactively fucks other aspects of the entire series for a lot of people. All because Bethesda couldn’t be bothered not to be lazy when developing a full price game.
And then let’s not forget that the vice president of Bethesda and former manager of PR and marketing for Beth-Fallout goes on Twitter and says shit like this
Skyrim and Fallout 4 already alienated a lot of the fanbase of their respective series. 76 is alienating the fanbase and giving everybody the middle finger while they do it. Even the most in-denial Bethesda apologists should be able to see how fucking garbage the whole Fallout 76 situation is. I don’t think multiplayer Fallout for a spin-off game is necessarily a bad idea (it definitely COULD have been done right), but they absolutely 100% dropped the ball here.
We haven’t even gotten into how the game is extremely buggy even by Bethesda standards, there are hackers everywhere because there’s no system in place to prevent it, the servers are shit and you constantly get disconnected, the end-game boss is a copy-pasted Skyrim dragon, etc etc etc
